Easy Pinecone Christmas Tree Ornaments for Toddlers

What is a Pinecone Ornament Craft?

Hello winter days ! This activity transforms simple pinecones into shiny little Christmas tree ornaments that toddlers can proudly hang themselves. It’s an easy craft for parents — quick setup, minimal cleanup, and a mostly happy, child at the end.

We used pinecones we collected during a walk and dried , colorful small pom-poms, and glitter glue for the sparkle. The only thing that needed stronger glue was the ribbon — my toddler tried white glue, but it didn’t hold, so I stepped in with the glue gun. The pom-poms fit perfectly between the scales — no glue needed!

How to Make Pinecone Ornaments

Here is what you need:

• A ribbon, we used red
• pinecones
• small pom poms
• glitter glue pens (we used green, red and gold)
• and a glue gun (the quick dry glue didn’t work)

Here’s the quick setup:

1. Collect & prep: Grab a few pinecones and let them dry completely.
2. Decorate: Add glitter glue on the scales.

3. Attach pom-poms: Toddlers can press them gently into the gaps — no glue required.
4. Add ribbon: Use a glue gun (adult job!) to secure the hanging loop.

It took us around 15 minutes from start to finish — short enough to keep a toddler’s attention but long enough to feel like a “real craft.”

Why We Love This Craft

This is the perfect winter craft for toddlers — simple, tactile, and festive. It’s a great way to practice fine motor skills (pressing pom-poms, squeezing glitter glue) while making something they’ll see hanging proudly on the tree.

PS.: We used a toilet paper roll and a tape roll to dry the glitter glue.
