Easy Apple Stamping Fall Tree Craft for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Fall crafts are the perfect way to enjoy the cozy season with your kids. One of our favorite activities this year has been apple stamping – a simple, hands-on craft that uses an apple as a stamp to create a beautiful fall tree painting. This activity is not only fun, but also great for fine motor skills, creativity, and sensory play.

In this post, I’ll share how we made our apple stamping fall tree craft, what materials we used, and a few tips from my own experience (like what to do when your toddler gets too excited about the paint!).

🍁 Materials You’ll Need

  • 1 apple (cut in half)
  • Liquid watercolors or washable paints
  • Thick watercolor or craft paper
  • A brown crayon or marker (for the tree trunk)
  • Brushes
  • A plastic mat to keep things clean
  • A bib or apron (Lätzchen if you’re in Germany!)

👉 Pro tip: If apples are expensive where you live (like here in Korea), you can cut the apple smaller to make it last longer. I even trimmed the sides of the apple to make a little “handle” for easier stamping.

🍎 How to Make an Apple Stamping Fall Tree

  1. Prepare the apple stamp
Cut the apple in half. Make sure the cut is straight so the stamp presses evenly onto the paper. (I learned this the hard way – my first cut didn’t stamp properly!)
  1. Add paint
Brush liquid watercolors onto the cut side of the apple. At first, the apple might absorb too much paint. After a few presses, it will start stamping more clearly.
  1. Stamp the tree
Use the apple stamp to create round leaf shapes at the top of the tree. We used red, orange, and yellow paints for a classic fall look.
  1. Draw the trunk
Use a brown crayon (or paint) to draw a sturdy trunk.
  2. Dry & display
Let your fall tree dry completely before hanging it up.

🌟 My Personal Experience

My toddler was absolutely fascinated by this craft. He loved pressing the apple into the paint and stamping the paper – though at some point, he got more excited about squishing the colors with his fingers than stamping! I actually had to hide the paints for a while. 😂

We reused the same apple for other stamping crafts the next day by keeping it overnight in the fridge. It worked perfectly!

A small challenge: in the beginning, the apple soaked up too much of the paint, so the first prints didn’t transfer well. Once the apple surface settled, the stamping looked much better.

And yes… the photos are a little dark (mum life!), but the craft itself was so much fun.

🍂 Why This Craft is Great for Kids
