Mother’s Day crafts with toddlers can honestly feel… stressful.
You want something cute enough to keep it forever (or at least not throw it away right away), but also simple enough that a toddler can actually make it without you doing the whole craft yourself.
So we tried this heart flower pot craft, and it turned out sooo sweet. Now it’s sitting on our table and I’m pretty sure I’ll keep it forever.

🎯 Materials for This Toddler Mother’s Day Flower Pot Craft
We kept this really simple.
You’ll need:
- small terracotta flower pot ( I got mine second hand)
- acrylic paint (we used the colors my son chose. Some look a bit muddy.)
- sponge
- stickers (optional – butterflies, hearts etc.)
- small plant or flower
- a piece of paper and scissors
- paper towel for toddler clean-ups 😅

We actually used what we had at home and it still looked adorable.
🛠️ How to Set Up This Flower Pot Craft for Toddlers
- Put the flower pot on a covered table .
- Pour a small amount of paint on a plate.
- Cut out a heart on a piece of paper. (I tried to attach it with tape, but it just wouldn’t hold so I had to hold it by hand.)
- Show your toddler how to sponge paint within the heart on the pot.
- Do this all around the pot.
- Let them decorate with stickers or little drawings.
- Once it dries, add the plant together.

“Happy Mother’s Day!” PS.: Why are there so many mums looking for toddler father’s day gifts, but not many look for mother’s day gifts from toddlers.
It’s really cute to do your own mother’s day gift with your toddler. Honestly the quality time together is the biggest reward.
Honestly that moment alone is worth the craft.

🎯 How We Did This Mother’s Day Craft (Our Experience)
My toddler was very serious about sponging the heart. He chose a lot of colors and he wiped more than pressed. He did color outside of the (already very big heart outline). I still loved it a lot.
Then the decorating started.
He kept adding stickers like poisonous mushrooms, random things, butterflies. (I added the text lol):
When we “borrowed” one of grandmas plants and planted the flower together he was SO proud.
🧠 What Toddlers Learn With This Flower Pot Craft
Even though it’s simple, toddlers practice a lot of skills here.
Fine Motor Skills
Holding a sponge and placing stickers helps strengthen hand control.
Creativity
Toddlers get to design their own version of the flower pot.
Responsibility
Planting a flower introduces the idea of taking care of living things.
New Vocabulary
During the craft we talked about:
- flower
- soil
- plant
- roots
- watering
- butterflies
It’s a tiny craft but actually a nice little life lesson.

📌 My Honest Thoughts
This is one of those crafts that actually becomes a keepsake.
Some toddler crafts are fun in the moment… but then disappear in a drawer.
This one sits in our home and I smile every time I see it.
Also I love that it works for Mother’s Day AND Father’s Day.
Just change the color or message and suddenly it’s a Father’s Day gift from your toddler too.
📍 FAQ About This Mother’s Day Flower Pot Craft

Around 24 months to 6 years.
Younger toddlers may need help painting the heart, but they still love adding stickers.
What plant works best?
Small plants like:
- succulents
- herbs
- small flowers
Succulents are great because they’re hard to accidentally kill. Better the plant is non poisonous.
