Cute Paper Bee Craft for Toddlers – Simple Spring Printable

At 29 months old, cutting anything besides straight lines and little waves is still pretty hard for my son. So for this paper bee craft, I did all the cutting prep — about 15–20 minutes.

We made this at the end of February because we are DONE with winter and just waiting for spring to come already. It also fit perfectly into our farm theme week — we’ve been introducing different farm animals (and helpers!) every day.

It kept him busy for a solid 15 minutes , and even though it’s definitely not independent play, we still ended up with the cutest fridge decoration.

🎯 What You’ll Need for This Paper Bee Craft for Toddlers

• Free bee printable
• Yellow and black craft paper (cardstock works best)
• White craft paper (for wings)
• Glue stick (or liquid glue if that’s all you have)
• Child-safe scissors
• Pipe cleaners (optional)
• Wooden beads (optional)
• Googly eyes (optional alternative)

We used craft paper because regular printer paper would have been way too floppy. The sturdiness really helps when you want to hang it up.

Optional swaps:

• Use googly eyes instead of printable eyes.
• Use the printable paper antennae instead of pipe cleaners.
• If glue sticks fail you (ours did 😅), liquid glue works — just supervise closely.

🛠️ How to Set Up This Paper Bee Craft for Toddlers

1. Print the bee template.
2. Cut out all template pieces.
3. Trace them onto colored craft paper.
4. Cut out the final body parts (this took me about 15–20 minutes).

5. Lay everything out clearly before calling your toddler over.
6. Start gluing the body together.
7. Add wings and stripes.
8. Finish with antennae and beads.

We had that classic “one glue stick empty, the other dried up” moment… so liquid glue it was. Not ideal for small kids, but we made it work.

🎨 How It Went (Real-Life Version)

He helped with the gluing in the beginning and was really into placing the big body pieces and wings. Once we got to the stripes, though… focus slowly disappeared 😅

He was VERY invested in the googly eyes and the wooden beads, he kept inspecting them instead of gluing. In the end, I finished most of the gluing, but he proudly added two beads onto the pipe cleaner antennae on top.

He didn’t really help with the stripes, and once the main body was done, he was ready to move on. I’d say this craft is much better suited for 3 or 3.5+ when cutting and attention spans get a bit stronger.

Still — we talked about bees, farms, and how bees help flowers grow. And when we finished, he insisted we add it to the fridge next to our other farm crafts. That part made it worth it.

It’s not independent play. It’s a together craft. And sometimes that’s exactly what we need.

📌 My Honest Thoughts

This is not a quick 5-minute craft. The prep alone takes 15–20 minutes because transferring the template to craft paper makes it much sturdier. You can just use the printable and print it on thicker paper. Or use this for a preschool craft and do it en masse.

Would I do it again? Yes.
Would I expect independent crafting at this age? No.

This is more of a “sit together and create something cute” kind of activity. And honestly, seeing it on the fridge with our other farm theme crafts makes it feel like a little seasonal memory.

If your child is closer to 3 or 3.5, this will probably feel easier and more balanced.

Q: Is this good for a 2-year-old?
Yes, but with full supervision and adult prep. Cutting is still tricky at this age.

Q: Can I skip the pipe cleaners?
Yes! The printable includes paper antennae if you want to keep it simple.

I really recommend it. It makes the bee much sturdier and better for displaying.
