Recycled Nutella Lid Goat Craft – Easy Farm Animal Craft For Toddlers

This little nutella lid goat craft came to be during our farm animal week, simply because I was staring at a leftover Nutella lid and thinking, what can I do with this?

There was no big plan or deep learning goal behind it — I’m just slowly introducing different animals to my 29-month-old, one at a time, in a way that feels doable for us.

To be honest, the first attempt completely flopped. I tried setting this up in the evening at my mum’s, when my son was tired, I was tired, and my patience was already thin. I also forgot the mat (MISTAKE), so he immediately drew on the table with the black marker, I couldn’t get it off, and he glued the googly eyes wherever he wanted. We stopped and I decided to reset.

The next morning was luckily a totally different story.

🎯 What You’ll Need for This Nutella Lid Goat Craft

Empty Nutella lid (washed) or Mason Jar Lid
Googly eyes
Yarn or thick wool (for the beard)
Cord or string (for the horns)
Pink and White Felt (nose + ears)
Child-safe glue
Black marker

We used whatever we already had. Nothing matched and that was ok.

Optional swaps:

No yarn? → Strips of fabric or paper
Younger toddler? → Pre-attach small pieces and let them place the bigger ones

🛠️ How to Set Up This Goat Craft for Toddlers

Clean and dry the Nutella lid.
Prepare yarn for the beard and cord for the horns.

Cut felt shapes for ears and nose.

Dad helped with the glue gun for ears and horns.

🎯 How to Do the Nutella Lid Goat Activity

The second day was calm and focused.

My son helped cut the beard cord, placed the eyes, glued on the felt nose, and helped shape the ears. Once the goat was finished, he kept stroking the beard again and again — he really liked the texture.

Even dad jumped in and helped with the horns and the ears. That was really nice.

There was honestly less engagement than with something like a mud sensory bin. But he enjoyed the process and stayed with it for about 25 minutes, which for us is a really solid amount of focused time.

📌 My Honest Thoughts as a Mum

This is a really cute craft and perfect for a farm-themed week.

I do think it works better for older toddlers (2.5+), especially if glue guns or smaller pieces are involved. My son wasn’t deeply absorbed like he is with messy sensory play, but he genuinely enjoyed crafting it and felt proud afterward.

All of his crafts become decorations in our home, and that pride matters to him. We even got a new cordless glue pen from grandpa — it’s much easier and safer to handle than a traditional glue gun. (I’ll link the one we use here.)
