🎯 Easy Toddler Craft Materials (Flower Balloon Craft)
This is hands down one of my toddler’s favorite spring crafts this year!
- Crepe paper (or tissue paper)
- White Craft Paper or Watercolor Paper
- Tape or contact paper
- A black pen
- Glue (I used a glue gun for the bow)
- Ribbon/band
- Washable paint (for handprint)
💡 We just used what we had at home — no fancy prep, no stress.
💡 If your toddler is younger → skip the string part and just do sticking.

🛠️ How to Set Up This Low-Prep Toddler Craft
- Cut a heart balloon shape out of craft paper.
- Add tape (sticky side out or contact paper)
- Rip crepe paper into small pieces (or let your toddler do it 👀)
- Prep string if you want the “balloon look”, or just draw it as we did.
💡 I did this while my toddler “cooked”— took maybe 10 minutes max
🎯 How to Do This Flower Balloon Craft with a Toddler
We did this in the morning after breakfast, when he’s usually in that good mood window before everything falls apart 😅
He’s 2.5 and honestly… I never know if he’ll like a craft.
But this one? immediate win. Yaay. Btw. you only get the wins. We flop often too and have half-finished stuff at home.
He started ripping the crepe paper first. (The first time it worked 😂)
Then making little balls for flowers… then sticking them on the tape.
And that’s what I loved about it —
👉 no complicated instructions
👉 no “do it this way”
👉 just stick, rip, press, repeat
He didn’t always make perfect round shapes and I just let him do it the way he wanted to. It did turn out pretty awesome didn’t it.
It kept him busy for about 30 minutes (which is… a lot in toddler time)
Then we added the handprint at the end (another ~10 mins)
He even helped pick the ribbon which made it feel more like his gift.

🧠 What Toddlers Learn From This Spring Craft
Of course toddlers don’t need to learn something all the time, but it’s still nice to know that they also learn something.
- Fine motor skills (pincer grasp, squeezing, pressing)
- Creativity & independence (no “right way” to do it)
- Color awareness (even passively)
- New vocab: sticky, soft, rip, press, balloon, ribbon
- Following simple steps and you can count the flower balls

📌 My Honest Thoughts (Mum to Mum)
I’d actually do this again — which says a lot 😂
What worked:
- super simple setup
- he could do most of it alone
- he didn’t get frustrated → he really loved rolling the balls .
What surprised me:
- how long he stayed with it
- how much he enjoyed just ripping + sticking
What I’d tweak:
- smaller heart for younger kids. So, it wouldn’t take that long.
Mess level?
👉 honestly low… especially if you just accept the chaos and do it on the table
📍 FAQ / Real Mum Tips
Q: What age is this good for?
A: Around 2–6 years
Q: Can I skip the paint?
A: Yes — but the handprint makes it SUCH a cute keepsake
Q: Is this actually low prep?
A: Yes. Like… real low prep. Not Pinterest fake low prep 😅
