Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Circle for the Sun
    • Cut out a circle of the cardboard. Use a bowl or plate to trace the shape for a perfect circle.

  1. Cut out the yellow circle for the sun.
    • Glue the cardboard to the yellow paper. Cut out around the cardboard circle. Sadly I had no baby safe scissors. I kept them on the table far away from my toddler when I wasn’t cutting. And my mum was there. Pls use safe scissors.

  1. Add the Face
    • Cut two circles from black paper for the eyes and two smaller pink circles for the cheeks. Glue them onto the lower half of the sun (makes it look cuter). I used a coin for the shape of the eyes and the back of the glue to make the circles for the cheeks.

  1. Cut the Sun Rays
    • Cut thin strips from the same yellow cardstock, and from slightly darker craft paper (0,5cm broad 7cm high and half 3,5 cm high). (Yes my toddler had them in his hands). Aim for around 8 bright and 8 darker yellow strips, depending on how full you want the rays to look. I also made the brighter ones shorter.

  1. Assemble the Sun
    • Glue the strips evenly around the back of the circle to create the rays. This part is great for toddlers—they can help place the rays (even if it gets a bit messy, that’s okay!).

    • Your happy sun is ready to brighten up your home. You can stick it on the wall, fridge, or even hang it in your child’s room!

Tips for Crafting with Toddlers:

  • Involve them: Let your toddler glue, place the rays, or stick the face.
  • Keep it safe: Use child-safe scissors and non-toxic glue.
  • Talk about shapes and colors: Use this activity to introduce your child to circles, strips, yellow, pink, and black.

Why This Sun Craft is Great for Toddlers:

  • Fine motor skills: Helps with hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
  • Creativity: Allows your child to experiment with art.
  • Joyful bonding: The memories you create while crafting are priceless!
