Easy Chick Handprint Craft – Cute Easter Keepsake

Handprint Chick Craft (2)

This chick handprint craft turned into one of those unexpectedly cute moments.

My son is 29 months now and absolutely loves finger paint — we do it a lot, and you can tell. This time he held his hands perfectly still (again!) and even pressed my fingers down to make sure mummy’s chick came out right. I nearly melted.

We made mummy and baby chicks next to each other, and honestly? He liked this one even more than the cow handprint craft we did right before. I think having both our hands on the page made it extra special.

And the best part?
It took under 10 minutes.

What You’ll Need

  • Yellow finger paint (we use it straight from the containers > on AMAZON)
  • White paper or cardstock
  • Orange marker or paint (for beak & legs)
  • Googly eyes (optional — you can draw them if you don’t have any)
  • A mat underneath (I always use one to limit mess)
  • Wet wipes ready

We used finger paint directly from the containers, it was just one color anyways. You could use a tray — but honestly? Means extra cleaning.

How We Made Our Mummy & Baby Chick Handprints

  1. I placed a mat under everything (always a good idea).
  2. I painted his hand yellow using finger paint straight from the container.
  3. He held his hand very still while we pressed it onto the paper.
  4. Then we did my hand right next to his for the mummy chick.
  1. He actually pressed my fingers down to make sure they printed properly 🥹
  2. Once dry, I added orange beaks, little legs, and googly eyes.

If you don’t have googly eyes, just draw them on. It looks just as cute.

What Happened (Real Mum Notes)

We didn’t talk much about chicks this time. It was more of an “in between” craft while the cow art dried.

But here’s what stood out:

  • He kept his hands very steady.
  • He clearly enjoyed the fact that both of our hands were on the page.
  • He put it on the fridge and now he talks about chicks a lot.

We do a lot of finger painting, and it shows. He understands the process now — paint, press, wait. That practice makes it so much easier for me.

What 29-Month-Olds Practice Here

Even if it feels simple, they’re building:

  • Hand strength
  • Sensory tolerance
  • Body control (holding still is a skill!)
  • Cause and effect
  • Connection and shared creativity

And honestly? Emotional bonding. This one felt different because we made it together.

My Honest Take

If you want a sweet Easter keepsake without overthinking it — this is it.

It’s quick. It’s meaningful. It feels special without being complicated.

And seeing the tiny baby chick next to mummy chick?
That one’s going in the memory box.

Why This Chick Handprint Craft Is Perfect for Toddlers

  • Quick (under 10 minutes start to finish)
  • Minimal prep
  • Great “in-between” craft while another project dries
  • Builds confidence for toddlers who already enjoy finger painting
  • Creates a keepsake you’ll actually want to keep

We did this while our cow handprint craft was drying — it was the perfect little transition activity.
