🪵 Beautiful Wooden Building Blocks for Toddlers:

If you wonder how to get all those sets. In Korea the second hand market is really great.

Colorful Wooden Block Sets

Bright, chunky blocks with towers. Great for open-ended play and stacking fun. I got those as a kid in the form of a castle set. It was one of my favorite toys. I think it’s more for 3 year olds, because they fall apart faster. My son loves to make tunnels thought. I got this pretty cheap set, but the one on Etsy is just beautiful:

Natural Wooden Blocks (All Brown, Montessori Style)

Minimalist, eco-friendly, and timeless. These plain blocks focus on shapes and balance—perfect for Montessori families. I think they are just beautiful and we had them at the kindergarten.

See-Through Colorful Window Blocks

A unique twist— wooden blocks with a transparent middle that let kids experiment with light and color. My kindergarten had these, and they were always the most popular choice.

🧲 Magnetic Building Block Sets

Magnetic Tiles (Like Magformers)

Snap-together tiles that can build castles, rockets, and towers. A huge toddler favorite for my son and an early STEM toy. He likes to “glue” them on the fridge:

🔹 Plastic & Classic Block Sets

Plastic Bristle and Slide In Building Blocks (Kindergarten Classic)

On the left ist the classic bristle building block (Amazon), which I used to play with as a kid—on the right is a set commonly used here in Korea. My toddler, age 2, tried playing with it, but was too young. Both are preschool favorites.

I can’t find the same set, but here is a similar.

Mega Blocks

Chunky and lightweight—perfect for 1-year-olds starting their building journey. My son’s first set (from my aunt!) became an instant hit.

Oxford Blocks & Lego Duplo

The classics. Bigger than regular LEGO, safe for toddlers, and endlessly fun for ages 2–5. And of course Lego, me and my son have a giant collection.

🎁 Why Building Blocks Are a Perfect Christmas Gift

  • ✅ Encourage creativity & imagination
  • ✅ Build fine motor skills & coordination
  • ✅ Teach early STEM concepts (balance, geometry, magnetism)
  • ✅ Grow with your child (toddlers use them differently at each stage)

❓ FAQs About Toddler Building Block Sets

Q: What building blocks are best for 2-year-olds?

For younger toddlers, the big Oxford Blocks is what my son started with and the Mega Blocks. From around 20 months he started getting interested in LEGO Duplo and at 22 months into magnetic tiles.

Q: Are building blocks safe for toddlers?

Yes—just choose larger pieces that can’t be swallowed. Avoid small LEGO sets until at least age 4.

Q: Are magnetic tiles safe for toddlers?

Yes, but choose trusted brands. Always supervise—if a magnet comes loose, it’s dangerous. Don’t let your kid swollow magnetics.

Q: Are Mega Blocks or LEGO Duplo better?

  • Mega Bloks: Are bigger, cheaper, and generally great to start out and see if your kid likes blocks in general.
  • LEGO Duplo: More variety, sturdier builds, lasts longer (2–5 years old and even a 32 year old mum still likes them).

Q: Are building blocks educational?

Absolutely! They support STEM learning, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork—all while toddlers think they’re just having fun.
