Yesterday my husband showed our toddler how to trace around his hands and feet, and he has been obsessed ever since! So today we decided to turn those outlines into a simple and adorable ghost handprint craft. This was such a fun Halloween activity, and I love that it’s not messy like finger paints. Plus, we now have a little memory of his tiny handprints and footprints to keep forever.
What You’ll Need For This Halloween Activity
- White paper
- Pencil for tracing hands and feet, don’t use a permanent marker.
- Scissors
- Black construction paper
- Glue stick
- Black marker or black paper for ghost faces

How We Made Our Ghost Handprint Craft

- Tracing Hands & Feet
My toddler held perfectly still while we traced his hands and feet on white paper. I loved this part—it’s such a keepsake moment.

- Cutting & Gluing
We cut out the handprints and footprints, then glued them onto black paper to make the ghosts stand out. My toddler helped with the cutting, he is totally into scissors these days and I have to let him help.

- Adding Ghost Faces
I cut out little black eyes and mouths from construction paper, while my son helped glue them on. (Tip: while I was busy cutting, we also did a quick ghost toilet paper craft so he didn’t get bored—more on that in my next post!)

- Enjoy the Keepsake
The finished ghosts look so cute on black paper. I especially love that the footprint ghost is something we can look back on when our son is bigger.

Why We Loved This Craft
- Low mess compared to fingerpaint crafts
- Perfect for Halloween crafts for toddlers
- Works on fine motor skills (tracing, gluing)
- Doubles as a keepsake handprint and footprint craft
- Fun family project – everyone can join in!

Tips for Parents
- Younger toddlers may need help cutting, but they’ll love gluing the faces.
- If your child gets bored waiting, pair this craft with a quick, easy side craft (like our ghost toilet roll craft).
- Use thicker black paper or cardstock so the ghosts really “pop.”
